Suffolk County Subsidy Program

The Suffolk County Department of Social Services has a Child Care subsidy program available to parents that meet certain income and work requirements. The program allows for free or low cost subsidized child care services for eligible families living in Suffolk County. *

As of August 1st 2022, the initial case income requirement is increasing from 200% to 300% and the requirement for hours at work is being reduced from 20 hours a week to 10 hours a week for parents who are not receiving Temporary Assistance (TA).**

After the initial case opening, the Department of Social Services requires that a family’s income not exceed 85% of the state median income (SMI). As such, a family will be found ineligible or no longer eligible for child care assistance, funded by the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2014 (CCBG), if their income exceeds this amount at determination or during the 12-month eligibility period
